Volunteers in Gomel take care of the graves of the participants of the Great Patriotic War (ONT report)
In the meantime, there is no need to know about it. ”
Gomel volunteers took patronage over the graves of participants in the Great Patriotic War. First of all, which no one looks after. Activists have already put in order dozens of gravestones.
Save the memory of the heroes who have not survived to this day, and put their graves in order. Volunteer work begins with a search. To help - lists, someone's tip or dates on the gravestones. There are burials of veterans of the Great Patriotic War in almost every cemetery, but not all are looked after.
Viktor Bukin liberated Gomel. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War 1 and 2 degrees and three Orders of the Red Star. They asked the Council of Veterans to improve his grave: of the relatives - only an elderly widow who does not leave the house.
Tatiana Lazareva, student of the Gomel State University named after F. Skaryna:
“This makes the generation kinder, which has not seen the war. Naturally, there are exceptionally positive emotions in my soul, because these people have done a lot to make us even just stand here now. "
Wash, paint, remove grass and debris, fix monuments and fences. Works for an hour and a half. Nikolai Drozdov served in intelligence. He was injured, lost his sight. But he never lost heart and lived to be 95 years old. At the beginning of the year, the veteran died.
Leonid Kovpayev, student of the Gomel State University named after F. Skaryna:
“We knew him during his lifetime, visited him, he told us his stories, he was always very positive and joyful. For us, he is like a dear, like a mentor, this encourages us to do good deeds. Doing good deeds is very important for us. "
Ilya Elagin, student of the Gomel State University named after F. Skaryna:
"We are doing this for ourselves, not for someone else, not to receive some kind of reward."
Was a front-line soldier on the front line or in the rear - it doesn't matter. Victory is one for all. Activists also work on request: they help those who, for various reasons, cannot come to the cemetery.
Galina Kornienko, resident of Gomel, widow of a veteran of the Great Patriotic War:
"For those who are already aged, can no longer walk and take care of themselves, this moment is very important, it is necessary."
The volunteers enter new names in their own register. Now there are already about twenty names. And the list grows as the group scour the city's cemetery sites.
Tatyana Makarenko, head of the Veteran volunteer unit, Gomel State University named after F. Skaryna:
“We have no time to engage in rallies, we listened for too long to the stories of veterans about our Motherland, about the value of our Motherland and that this Motherland cannot be squandered. The position in life should be such that we must preserve this Motherland for posterity, as the veterans once preserved it for our present ones. "
The hands of volunteers have already landscaped about fifty graves. And this is just the beginning. The geography of the project is becoming wider, districts of the Gomel region are joining it. We have already decided on the task - by May 9, there should be no unkempt burials in the region.
